The long-standing principle of equal pay for women and men in the EU has faced implementation challenges. Addressing this, the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025 highlighted gender pay transparency as a crucial goal. Consequently, on March 4, 2021, the Commission introduced a directive on reinforcing pay equality, which was ultimately adopted by the European Parliament on March 30, 2023, marking a significant step in the EU’s commitment to gender equality in the workplace.
